The second series had the letter "S" as a prefix to the serial number and was made from 1925 to 1932. Now here is the problem this is an older firearm before savage started using model numbers. Savage started using the serial number letter prefix to signify their compliance with the Gun Control Act (GCA) of 1968 and differentiate their firearms that were made before (no letter prefix) and after (with prefix) the GCA went into effect on October 22, 1968.
